Aftercare Advice
General Aftercare from the Hairdresser
You might experience slight discomfort for the first few days of the new installation of your hair extensions, it's important not to wear it in a high ponytail for approximately 2 days. We would recommend a low ponytail.
It is not advised with some methods not to wear hair extensions up high on a regular basis as the weight can cause tension and sore patches.
If throughout your fit you are experiencing any problems such as knotting it's generally an aftercare issue, it may be that you are struggling with how to brush and care for your hair extensions.
It may be that you haven’t been able to dry your extensions correctly or need extra time and care to brush through each section.
If any of these problems occur, we advise that you contact us immediately to show you a few in house tips to look after your hair correctly.
A blowdry is usually recommended for your first wash, we welcome you to the salon to show you step by step the process to help you with future aftercare at home. This service is discounted at £20.00.
You should avoid swimming and salty water like this and cause the extensions to dry out or even discolour.
We advise that you use serum or dry oil daily and aim to brush your hair extensions twice a day using a tangle teezer and/or a soft brush, avoiding bobble ended brushes as they may cause damage and even pull the hair extensions out from the root area.
When sleeping we advise that you tie the hair back in a low ponytail, loose braid or loose bun. You should never sleep with your hair loose.
The hair extension should be always kept moist by using hair extensions products only, please speak to member of staff at The Hairdresser for recommendations.
Colouring your hair whilst wearing hair extensions may differ from client to client, there are some colouring services that may not be suitable with certain methods of hair extensions. We always advise that you have a colouring service prior to your hair extensions application, if you are having Loxcette our in-house brand fitted the life span in 2 months maximum. It’s advised to have a colour service on the same day as your removal. Although it's not impossible to do colour it would be best to seek advice from your stylist at The Hairdresser. We do not colour hair extensions on any brand other than Loxcette.
Maintenance
Maintenance is vital for any method of hair extensions you have with us at The Hairdresser.
After your fitting you might feel a hair extension isn’t suiting you, we would be happy to adjust or change free of charge within 7 days of your original fitting.
Maintenance going forward is 6/8 weeks depending on growth and method you have. If you feel you cannot commit to regular maintenance appointments due to cost or time.
Washing & Drying
Hair extensions should not be left under any circumstance to dry naturally or brushed whilst wet. You must always dry your hair extensions and do not go to bed with wet hair, this can cause damage to the hair extensions and potentially knot them together.
Whilst washing your hair it's important to tilt your hair back in the shower and not forward washing. Always wash at a cool/warm temperature.
Washing your hair with the correct aftercare is the most important part of the longevity of your hair extensions, washing your hair once with the wrong shampoo can weaken the glue and result in slipping and even damage the bonds if you have micro rings and we may not be able to place them back in.
We do have our own in-house brand for hair extensions, if we are out of stock, we would always be happy to advise another option. It's important to only use shampoo on the roots and nothing else.
Never use conditioner on the root or anywhere near the hair extensions, this can cause the extensions to slip out.
Please be extremely careful not to pull/squeeze or rub your hair extensions, try and be gentle otherwise you can cause matting or tanging.
Your hair extensions should be towel dried first by patting, please do not twist. You can then dry on a cool setting and dry throughout ensuring your hair extensions are completely dry.
No oils, serums or anything else other than sulphate free shampoo can be used on the
root area.
